My name is Cindy Kowalski.  I’m the founder of Eligry LLC, a licensed independent insurance brokerage specializing in Medicare, life insurance, and retirement solutions. While I work across these areas, I have two particular passions: Medicare and Indexed Universal Life (IUL) insurance. These aren’t just business focuses—they’re personal missions born from discovering how often people are being misled in these critical financial areas.

My Medicare Journey

My passion for Medicare education began with a personal wake-up call. When I turned 65 a few years ago, I was completely lost. I had no idea what I was doing, and the complexity of Medicare felt overwhelming. By God’s grace alone, I avoided making irreversible mistakes that could have affected my health and financial security for the rest of my life.

That close call changed everything. I realized that if someone like me could nearly make critical errors, countless others must be facing the same challenges. I spent an entire year immersing myself in Medicare, earning my license and certifications. But I didn’t stop at the basic requirements—I pursued every learning opportunity I could find, and I continue staying current on all Medicare changes, regulations, and deadlines.

Here’s the reality: it’s nearly impossible for the average person to understand everything they need to know to make the best Medicare decisions. What makes this worse is that the vast majority of Medicare agents sell policies based on what earns them the highest commission—not what’s truly right for their clients.

The IUL Problem

Indexed Universal Life insurance is another area where people—not just seniors—are being sold policies that benefit the agent far more than the client. What could potentially be one of the greatest tax-free income investments can quickly turn into a financial disaster when structured improperly. This is exactly why IULs have earned such a negative reputation from financial experts like Dave Ramsey and others.

The problem is twofold. Many IUL agents don’t even realize they’re recommending the wrong policy for their customers because they’ve been trained in a particular way by their companies. Others are fully aware of what they’re doing, deliberately putting their pocketbooks ahead of their clients’ needs. IULs are complex products, and the vast majority of agents simply don’t understand how to structure them properly. But they do understand one thing: IULs are popular right now and can pay extremely high commissions.
