Medicare Supplement Insurance
Will I Pass
Medigap Underwriting?
This free pre-screening tool walks you through the same health questions insurance carriers ask — so you can find out whether it makes sense to pursue a Medicare Supplement plan before you ever fill out an application.
Medigap plans require medical underwriting in most situations. That means insurance carriers review your health history before deciding whether to approve you, and at what rate. Before going through that process, it helps to know whether your health profile is likely to pass.
This tool gives you an honest, educational assessment based on the conditions carriers most commonly review. It is not an insurance application, not a coverage offer, and not a guarantee of any outcome. Every carrier uses its own standards — a condition one carrier declines, another may approve. Final decisions rest solely with the carrier at the time of application.
If you have guaranteed issue rights — such as being within 6 months of your Part B start date or losing employer coverage — carriers cannot deny you based on health, and this tool does not apply to your situation. Ask Eligry if you’re unsure.
Medicare Supplement Plans Fill the Gaps Original Medicare Leaves Behind
Original Medicare (Parts A & B) covers many healthcare costs — but not all of them. It leaves you exposed to hospital deductibles, 20% coinsurance on outpatient care, and no out-of-pocket maximum. A Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap) is private insurance that pays alongside Medicare to cover those remaining costs.
Unlike Medicare Advantage, Medigap lets you see any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare — nationwide, with no networks and no referrals. That freedom comes with a trade-off: to enroll outside your guaranteed issue window, you must pass medical underwriting.
🔒 Why Underwriting Matters
Insurance carriers use underwriting to assess risk. Depending on your health history, you may be approved at standard rates, approved with a surcharge, or declined. Knowing where you stand before applying saves time, protects your privacy, and helps you and your advisor choose the right carrier — or explore alternatives if underwriting isn’t the right path for you right now.
🔒 Are you in a Guaranteed Issue period?
If you are within 6 months of your Medicare Part B effective date, or are losing employer-sponsored health coverage, carriers cannot deny you or charge more based on your health. These results do not apply if you have guaranteed issue rights. Call Eligry if you’re unsure — (888) 588-5175.
